Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;"
-William Shakespeare, A Midsummer's Night Dream
Ahh, what a position to hold!...Titania Queen of the Fairies....sure, it sounds like a glamorous job, but can you imagine the day to day grind of it? Holding court with a bunch of ill-mannered pixies, dancing till all hours of the night...how's a girl to keep her looks? Falling in love with a guy that has the head of ...well...you know! Not to mention keeping gremlins and goblins at bay...while your constituents thought that perhaps you could be doing a bit more. Doing loads of laundry, cooking dinner every night....no wait, that's my life!
Suddenly "queen" just doesn't seem so wonderful a position!
This doll is Titania....before she was queen...back in her carefree days of wandering hill and dale. I think I may have caught her a bit off guard...I can't tell by her expression if she is glad for the company or would rather pursue her travels alone.
Titania is a paper clay doll that has been made inside a frame. The background is painted in acrylic paints and the foliage that surrounds Titania is wired and "posed". The entire piece is 13" x 13". It was a bit daunting to do a 3 dimensional piece that would be seen as a 2 dimensional work, but it was fun...in hindsight!
This doll is dedicated to all the women that I know who deserve the title of Queen and may feel that their better days are behind them....may you find that this is not so! Your best days are still to come!

I LOVE Titania ..........oh' you have totally captured her. And did you do the painting? Angela, she is amazing. You go girl!
Oh, Angela:
"Your best days are still to come!" May it only be so. ^__^
BTW, the piece is a wonder. And Titania looks suspiciously like a youngest queen I know.

I'm glad you explained the piece, because I was wondering how 3D it was. Well done! (of course!) Beautious!
My word verification is "spunted". Sounds vaguely pixie like, as in, "she was spunted by her beau when he didn't show up for their date". heehee
